Antwerp insurance broker Kegels & Van Antwerpen NV has just sold its shares to Germany’s largest insurance broker, the Ecclesia Group. The German insurance group is already active in our country with Concordia and IC Insurance. This acquisition will lead to the merger of Kegels & Van Antwerpen and Concordia under the Ecclesia flag. For the customers and staff, the trusted contacts, locations and brand names will be retained for the time being.
Kegels & Van Antwerpen, located at the IJzerlaan in Antwerp, was founded ten years ago through the merger of Kegels Insurance and Investments and Van Antwerpen en Partners. The takeover of Vercomo in Nijlen subsequently also ensured a strong position in the Kempen.
The Antwerp insurance broker is mainly active in the corporate segment and has experienced significant growth in recent years. This is partly due to the online offers on the "Verzeker Je" website, the white label products, and their affinities specialisation. As a member of the Plus ++ brokers, Kegels & Van Antwerpen also approaches private individuals and companies with innovative solutions.
“On one hand, there is increasing consolidation. But, complex regulations and specialisation in our sector are not to be underestimated. From this perspective, Harry Kegels and I, as shareholders of Kegels & Van Antwerpen, want to guarantee long-term continuity for our customers and employees. We found the right partner for this in the Ecclesia Group,” explains Luc Van Antwerpen.
The takeover of Kegels & Van Antwerpen is entirely in line with Ecclesia’s strategy to strengthen its position in our country further. “We invest in companies that are not only complementary to our activities but also share the same vision and values. This acquisition ensures that we significantly increase our market share, making us the fifth largest independent insurance broker in Belgium,” said Jochen Körner of Ecclesia.
This new constellation will have more than 130 employees (Ecclesia now has more than 200 employees in Belgium).
Bigger market share
Under the banner of Ecclesia, a far-reaching collaboration between Kegels & Van Antwerpen and Concordia is now coming to an end, to perform a merge. Luc Van Antwerpen, CEO of Kegels & Van Antwerpen and Steve Sartor, Managing Director of Concordia, who will jointly lead the company, see many advantages in this association. To start with, it will allow them to increase their market share in the medium-sized companies segment, but also to be more attractive to larger international clients.
“Our companies are very complementary. There is also a geographic aspect. Concordia is mainly active in East and West Flanders and Brussels. For Kegels & Van Antwerpen, the focus is on the Antwerp region. As digitisation is becoming increasingly important, the acquisition of Kegels & Van Antwerpen is an opportunity in this regard ”, concludes Steve Sartor of Concordia.
